Safety
- wear safety glasses!!
- also wear dust mask for entire operation if working with glass composites
Equipment or Bill of Materials
- material needing to be chopped (composite or just plastic)
- safety glasses
- dust mask
- popcorn box with antistatic insert to be placed into collection box
Calibration & Tolerances
Operation & Procedure
- plug in chipper at back of 516 (nextdoor to 517)
- make sure safety pin is inside of hole on metal collection box. if not, push it in and you will hear a click from the circuit closing.
- press the black switch (right) on the control panel to turn the granulator on.
- feed the material through the chute at the top (make sure the chute cover does not leave any openings)
- if the material you are chopping is in large chunks, place all of it in the chute at the same time. (for glass composites this prevents glass from escaping due to opening the chute)
- wait until the rattling sound starts to disappear and then use a long ruler to push down any material stuck in the chute
- repeat this step until almost no material comes back into chute. (this shouldn't need to be repeated more than once or twice)
- turn off granulator by pressing red button (left) on control panel
- when motor stops spinning after a few minutes, lift up on the collection box and pull box out
- on a flat, spacious surface (table), carefully pull the popcorn box out of the collection box
- carefully remove the antistatic insert from the popcorn box
- with a bag handy, curl the antistatic insert with one end inserted into bag and dump material into the bag.
- shake out and brush off antistatic insert over a garbage can to remove excess glass
- place antistatic insert back into popcorn box
- place popcorn box into metal collection box
- place collection box back onto bottom of chipper, but leave so the safety pin is not inside the hole if not using again
- unplug chipper
- every few uses (especially when changing glass %) unplug chipper, unscrew the chute from the main assembly and use a dry paper towel to brush out the inside of the shaft and rest of assembly. Re-attach when done.
