Waterborne diseases (also spelt "water-borne") are a major cause of death and illness worldwide.
Examples include cholera and typhoid, spread through water which is contaminated by fecal matter (sewage which has not been treated or disposed of safely). Prevention is by supply of clean water - see water purification.
Malaria can be considered waterborne, as it depends on still water for mosquitos to breed.
