My water bottle stripper is designed to use discarded water bottles to make strong lengths of plastic cordage that can then be used for anything that requires high strength Cord. This design is potentially very useful in developing countries because water bottle waste is something that is plentiful throughout the world and that waste can then be converted into cordage. Not only will this provide a valuable, and versatile resource, it will also help in reducing pollution caused by plastic bottle waste.

Bill of Materials[edit | edit source]

In addition to the tools to print this part and the falament material used, for this design to be functional all that is required is a standard razor blade.

Tools needed[edit | edit source]

  1. Jellybox or similar RepRap 3-D printer
  2. 1.75mm PLA falament

Technical Specifications and Assembly Instructions[edit | edit source]

  1. Print each part of this assembly separately. When printing make sure to have plenty of build plate adhesion or pivot the part so there is minimal surface area on the plate.
  2. To print all the parts it should take around 15-20 hours depending on print speed.
  3. assembly should take less then 5 minutes.

Common Problems and Solutions[edit | edit source]

  • The biggest problem I had with this build was during the 3D printing process. Because the base of the part is so wide and thick there is a lot of warping because of uneven cooling of the part. The only ways really to fix that is to have a heated print bed or adhere the part thoroughly to the bed. When printing the entire stripper as a whole the cylinder will adhere to the rest of the part.

Cost savings[edit | edit source]

  1. cost for materials= $3.65
  2. Comercialy available alternative = $20.00
  3. Savings = $16.35
