Building a sewer system? Let’s face it, it’s a bad idea. For a sewer system to work you’ll need pipes running from each home to a treatment facility or septic tank. It tends to be a waste and not the best thing for the environment. Not to mention the fact that to get the waste from you house to your treatment location you’ll need water, lots of it. Let us also not forget the need for someone who can fix the system if it breaks.
So what is a better way to go? I’ve been researching yurts a lot lately and while surfing along I found this book The Humanure Handbook by Joseph Jenkins. I haven’t bought myself a copy yet but you can download the first edition from the web site. The book offers an alternative to a sewer system and shows how to make human waste safe for growing gardens.
