Welcome!

Appropedia-logo.jpg

Hi Robinwilkes,

Welcome to the Appropedia wiki. Please make yourself at home! If you need a general wiki-tutorial, see the main help page (or the more in-depth one on WikiEducator).

Check your preferences and be sure you verify your email address and turn on email notification if you'd like it -- you can find out when your talk page, or any page on your watchlist, is modified. You may want to upload a photo or information about yourself to your userpage (which is at https://www.appropedia.org/User:Robinwilkes).

If you have a particular interest or project in mind, go ahead and start it! If you have questions or suggestions, the best place to leave them is at the Village pump - you should get a fast response. Or, feel free to leave me a note on my talk page if you have further questions, need help finding your way around, have a cool idea for a project, or just want to chat.

Glad to have you here!

Hi Robin

First the generic stuff

  • Formatting: tie into appropedia with hyperlinks -- e.g. there is already considerable information on photovoltaic cells, use existing site resources to explain basic concepts - don't repeat anything, categorize properly
  • Content: cite each concept directly using <ref> commands, get into the peer reviewed lit,

I would choose one of your ideas and quantify it. For example for the Si melt in Si - determine if this will work - how fast do you have to pull up the column? Will this result in structural defects that will be worse than the contaminants? How bad is the contamination problem from the existing method? If you eliminate it can you eliminate a re-solidification step? We have covered the diffusion equations you will need to calculate the contamination in the melt and the solidification to how much would end up in your ingot. Note- the rod in the CZ process does not end up in the ingot.

Hit the patent literature on this.

Solar cells

Hey Robin, I read through your page and edited some grammar/spelling to make it flow a little better. Watch out for some wordy and run-on sentences. I fixed some of them but I'm not sure if they're the way you want to write them so take a look. And like Dr. Pearce said, I would try to go a little more in-depth with your energy solutions. See if you can be more specific about how the process would actually work and how much more efficient it can be. Good work so far though,
