Welcome![edit source]

Appropedia-logo.jpg

Hi Kili,

Welcome to the Appropedia wiki. Please make yourself at home! If you need a general wiki-tutorial, see the main help page (or the more in-depth one on WikiEducator).

Check your preferences and be sure you verify your email address and turn on email notification if you'd like it -- you can find out when your talk page, or any page on your watchlist, is modified. You may want to upload a photo or information about yourself to your userpage (which is at User:Kili).

If you have a particular interest or project in mind, go ahead and start it! If you have questions or suggestions, the best place to leave them is at our community discussion page, which we call the Village pump - you should get a fast response. Or, feel free to leave me a note on my talk page if you have further questions, need help finding your way around, have a cool idea for a project, or just want to chat.

Glad to have you here!

-Fixer

Curt's Welcome[edit source]

Hi Kili, I am very glad to see your user page! Welcome, welcome! And what a great user name, reminds me of the other big Kili in Tanzania. Does the mountain also have a connection to a Christopher?

I look forward to working with you to grow Appropedia in ways that are appropriate for East Africa and the whole continent. CurtB 06:52, 6 February 2011 (PST)

Thank you[edit source]

thank you guys for the warmest welcomes. thanks!

Great progress![edit source]

Hi Kili, Just wanted to check in with you. I've seen a bunch of your new pages, and it's exciting to see the progress! Also, I want to ask when you think is the right time to make an announcement about our new Kiswahili support? Part of me is thinking "sooner is better", but at the same time I believe in making a good first impression. We can also make our announcements in stages. For example, you or I could write a blog post that mentions the coming announcement, and perhaps that way we could find others in the community that could help us when we are ready for the main announcement.

What do you think? CurtB 09:13, 16 February 2011 (PST)

Its time![edit source]

You are right curt, I think we better make the announcement soon. I also do think this will excite other readers and users from africa and other small language communities to join forces. Thanks a lot for the good compliments.

Thanks[edit source]

Thanks for the heads up -- Fixer 09:24, 18 March 2011 (PDT)

snow and PV[edit source]

Hi Kili

Thank you for the ideas about the wiper idea for snow on PV. There are a few commercial products on the market that do it - see for example [1] - that could be further refined to a low cost system. I am skeptical of this solution from an automated perspective however - in general PV systems last 20 years under warranty and produce power of substantial quantities for far more than that. Mechanical systems just don't normally hold up that long - I am not sure that the costs would thus be justified in the energy gains from clearing the panels. We will be able to put some real numbers on those gains soon -- however! If it looks promising then there could be a lot of room for innovation - particularly low cost manual systems. I am most curious about things like employing people in the north to clear PV farms -does it make sense? -- Joshua 04:49, 12 May 2011 (PDT)

How is your experience here?[edit source]

Hi Kili, and thanks again for all your work on the wiki, especially the translation.

I want to ask you how the experience is for you? I hope you find it fulfilling and that it is a benefit to you in terms of useful knowledge and experience, and new ideas. Please let me know if there is something we could do that could improve things for you. --Chriswaterguy 10:49, 16 September 2011 (PDT)

Oops, I forgot to sign above - but you figured out it was me, anyway :-). Thanks for your answers - I was glad to read all of that. Re Facebook, I think that's a good idea. Are we connected on Facebook? I couldn't find you there. I'm at www.facebook.com/chriswaterguy --Chriswaterguy 10:49, 16 September 2011 (PDT)

Nice work[edit source]

Wow, great fix of the Edible leaves page - all those mistakes had been there for so long, but you were the one to correct them. Thank you! --Chriswaterguy 03:28, 18 November 2011 (PST)

Hi Kili[edit source]

I am soooooooo happy that it makes me incapable of expressing it. You are doing a NOBLE WORK of translating my sentences into your language.

I always wanted to get in touch with Africa, ever since I read a WHO Annual report. It had one full chapter on Malaria, which is just one of the many mosquito borne killer diseases. More over it told about the loss due to Malaria in Sub-Saharan countries like Rwanda, Congo etc IN TERMS OF % OF GDP!! In my talks on GEM Technology I used to tell the audience that each and every death, be it at any part of the world, is sorrowful simply because he/she is A MEMBER OF SOME FAMILY.

I don't find words to thank you for the noble work. I pass on the responsibility to God Almighty Who will do it APPROPRIATELY.

By the way in my mother-tongue (MalayalaM) Kili means MEDIUM SIZE FLYING BIRD. Bird is a very good example of FREEDOM as well as cleanliness. They can fly across any boarders any time, you see, which means they have NO boarders. MosquitoGeorge Shooter 02:20, 23 November 2012 (PST)

Hi Kili[edit source]

Thank you for the response. A word about the treated nets. As you rightly said, it can protect only when you are inside that (& only from mosquito). There is a more important reason why I OPPOSE THE USE OF INSECTICIDE IMPREGNATED NETS. The reason is embedded in the name itself: exposure and proximity of insecticide for long duration. It can precipitate lung disorders and probably even CANCER in the long run - but nobody may detect the link in 20-30 years or more. I feel you & Appropedia should OPPOSE treated net usage.

Can Appropedia lead demonstrating GEM mosquito control?[edit source]

Hi Christopher Sam & Chris Watkins,

I have posted this question/doubt/suggestion in GEMMC’s talk page. Earnestly hope to hear you.
