I am a fifth-year mechanical engineering student at Michigan Technological University. Some of my favorite academic include design engineering and prototyping, so naturally additive and subtractive manufacturing are subjects I expect to continually develop and learn more about. Outside of academics, I enjoy getting outdoors for all four seasons by snowboarding, hiking, disc golfing, playing soccer, and photography.
Tim Shawaryn is currently a fifth-year mechanical engineering student with a minor in manufacturing at Michigan Technological University and will be graduating in December of 2019. He has had three internships in which he has refined his skills in CNC routing, quality engineering, and design engineering. He is a member of the GEAR Enterprise at Michigan Technological University where he develops products that will enhance the enjoyment of outdoor recreational activities. Last year, he worked under a contract with the Department of Defense to design a water hydration device that would allow downed pilots to remain hidden and hydrated until extraction from enemy territory. This semester, he will be developing this device for civilian use.
Past Work Relevant to Appropedia[edit | edit source]
Through the GEAR Enterprise at the Michigan Technological University, I have worked on a project in which I am developing a portable device that will produce potable water through the absorption of water vapor. This project started through a contract with the Department of Defense, but future work within this project is focused on making it relevant for civilian use. Potential uses for this device could be for hurricane relief, power outages, camping, and more.
