Fig 1: Tim Billman holding his AthenaII

I am a Mechanical Engineering student at Michigan Technological University. I will be graduating December 2018 and plan to start working full-time for Cummins Inc. in February 2019. I have a strong interest in manufacturing and have gained experience in many different types while at MTU. I work at the MTU School of Technology machine shop manufacturing custom parts using machinery such as lathes, mills, plasma tables, welders, and much more. I am a leader on my enterprise team, Blizzard Baja SAE where we design, manufacture, and compete a single seat off-road racing vehicle. I have three prior experiences working for Cummins Inc. in three different parts of the United States, all with their own unique projects and responsibilities. This semester, Fall 2018, I am very excited for three manufacturing related projects. I am completing my capstone project through enterprise, designing and manufacturing with CNC machinery a dual-spur reduction gearbox for Baja SAE. For another project, I will be creating my own casting in MTU's foundry after studying and practicing techniques through the Casting course (MSE4310). The third project is from the class where this web-page has started from, Open Source 3D Printing, MY4777. I will be learning about distributed additive manufacturing using open-source 3-D printing. I will be getting hands-on experience through building a customized RepRap and creating open source, printable designs throughout the semester.
