I am a 5th year student from Michigan Technological University graduating April 2017 with a BS in Electrical Engineering, certification in Electrical Power Engineering, and a minor in Economics. I will be starting work after college with Shell Oil Company doing Power Engineering. I have been a member of the Open Source Hardware Enterprise (OSHE) since January, 2016.

Spring 2017

Ford College Community Challenge Project

The Recyclebot v5.0 prototype that was created in Fall 2016 was improved upon by condensing all electronics to a RAMPS1.4 board, implementing a diameter sensor, automatic filament diameter modes, greater filament winding capacities, increased manufacturability, thorough documentation, increased performance through testing, optimization, and design. Aubrey Woern and myself worked in conjunction to accomplish these goals. Michigan Technological Universities Society for Technical Communication assisted in the documentation of the Recyclebot Version 5.1. In addition to this, I played a major role in the small scale manufacturing project undertaken throughout the semester, along with assistance in Enterprise management, including current and future enterprise ventures.

Fall 2016

Ford College Community Challenge Project

During the fall 2016 semester, I, in conjunction with Aubrey Woern, have developed a functioning model of the Recyclebot v5.0. Though we have a functioning model, many areas of improvement are needed. For instance, currently the machine only works on manual mode. We have designed for a fully automatic version that will be released some time next semester - including simplified construction designs, along with documentation and a business plan for our enterprise to sell both the extruders and 3D printer filament. Within the control system code, all functionality is laid out in comments to make modification for use very easy. I developed all motor and electronics control, and Aubrey Woern did a majority of the mechanical design and construction. For more information, please see Recyclebot v5.0. In addition to this project, I have worked closely with the daily enterprise operations, including marketing events, business products and the associated business plan development. These items are awaiting approval from the Michigan Tech Enterprise departments, and are expected to be integrated early next semester.

Spring 2016

Ford College Community Challenge Project

During the spring 2016 semester I partnered with Aubrey Woern to develop the filament extruder's for the Ford College Community Challenge Project. We have constructed 1 of the 3 units and have entered the product testing phase. Our filament extruder was inspired by the Michigan Tech Open Source Technology Lab, Recyclebot V4.0ac project, advised by Dr. Joshua Pearce. Modifications are currently being made to improve output filament diameter consistency through upgraded filament tension and spooling systems. Further improvements are currently being developed and will continue through the 2016-2017 school year.
