Name: Hector Francisco Hernandez

Well to start off, I am originally from Los Angeles California. I initially did not think of coming up here at all. I was told of humboldt county before i applied and simply said..."what is humboldt?" but after my sister showed significant interest in this school and continuously told me about it, I decided to save up and come see it for myself. I came and as soon as i got off the plane and a relaxing vibe came over me, I said this was the place for me, at least for now.

Through out my childhood my dad always pushed the importance of making a difference in the world, and that we had to be important to survive in the future. So I grew up learning things that I wouldn't have learned other wise. I grew up always having a nack and an interest in making, taking apart, and the occasional putting back together of things. Growing up I learned mechanics, physics, and chemistry from my dad. All through out my teenage years I would Fix cars, restore, rebuild. everything that you would think would push me into engineering, but for some idea I had the notion of trying to become premed, so for the first 3 years of my university career I was a pre-med major, until one summer that my dad gave me the opportunity to completely rebuild an engine for a car we had. Doing this awoke something in me that I could not understand for some time. It forced me to double think the premed major. After designing a mechanism from scratch for my car did i realize that that was what i truly loved to do, and started looking into engineering. I realized that this is what i wanted to do since the day I cut a car in half and into more pieces to put another car that was also destroyed. making a new car that worked great. Now I know i want to be an engineer.
