Transplanting seedlings should be undertaken with care, to minimize shock to the plant.

If using drip irrigation, a seedling can be planted at each wet spot. This system ensures the moisture gets to the plant, meaning efficient use of water.

Key steps

It's best if soil is moist, but not too wet, before planting. Having the area covered with mulch for the days or weeks before planting will help.

If water is limited, just water immediately around the plant after transplanting, and cover with a thick mulch except for a few centimeters (an inch or so) around the plant.

Alternatives

Grow directly in place - see How to raise seedlings #Sowing directly vs sowing in containers. This depends on climate, how much space is available, and whether growing beds are ready.
