I am proposing using this template to put on pages with current versions in other languages. I am proposing using this instead of individual templates so that we can make changes in bulk and easily find all pages using the template. Thoughts?

good idea

It is a very good idea, with that we don't need to create a template per page. Great--Javier Carro 14:13, 3 December 2007 (PST)

Great. I am glad you like it. I deleted the other templates (PV and Main-page). Thank you, --Lonny 14:49, 3 December 2007 (PST)

Agreed - very efficient. I also love the idea of a high profile version of interwiki language links, and I'd like to maintain a reasonably high profile, even if a language has moved to a separate subsite/subdomain.

There are some big advantages, long term, to using the regular interlanguage links like on Wikipedia, other Wikimedia sites and Wikitravel (e.g. [[id:teknologi tepat guna]]).

At some point, for the long term, I'd like to explore the idea of using the interlanguage links to create a notice that looks like this template, plus with little flags for each language. The difference is that interlanguage links have a more standardized form and piping isn't needed, and when the site becomes bigger, bots can be used to maintain the interlanguage links (e.g. the article in language A is linked to languages B and C, so the bot can check that those articles in languages B and C are also linked back to A, and to each other). --Chriswaterguy · talk 20:08, 3 December 2007 (PST)

Great ideas, especially those around automation. When we get to that point we should discuss flags for languages... I think we should avoid country flags as that can be too presumptuous about what flag should represent what language, but we could probably use some type of initials/flag to represent the different languages. Anyways, not an issue until we reach critical mass on some languages. Chris, is the id welcome page ready to be linked from the mainpage? Thank you both, --Lonny 23:13, 3 December 2007 (PST)
