GAS METAL ARC WELDING - ALUMINUM

Influence of Pulse Parameters on Characteristics of Bead-on-Plate Weld Deposits of Aluminum and Its Alloy in the Pulsed Gas Metal Arc Welding Process[1]

Found that variation in pulse parameters, mean current, and heat input significantly affects weld deposit. The change in parameters were correlated with specific changes in weld characteristics including microstructure, HAZ, bead, width and others though the use of a ---, sigma. A change from 0.05 - 0.1 sigma was found to coarsen dendritic microstructure, refinement of the dendritic microstructure occurred between 0.2 and 0.3 sigma. Coarsening was also tied to heat build-up in the weld pool.
