A note regarding systems and resilience: "..changes and shocks that come from the outside" is not entirely correct. A system at one 'scale', e.g. a cell, or a tree or a town, exists as an integral part of every larger scale system. So while a change may appear to come from the outside, it's completely a matter of perspective.

While this may appear to be an academic point, it's actually an ecological one. The idea (belief) that separation and autonomy are even possible is what's gotten us into trouble in the first place. It's necessary that we begin to be able to hold multiple perspectives as we think and act in making this Transition.
