I take issue with the "saving lives in the developing world" aspect of this article. Cheap petroleum is the single most important thing that has made our standard of living possible in the "developed" world. That age is coming to an end. We need to stop with this meaningless dichotomy between First and Third World. We need OSAT, and we need it everywhere. If OSAT helps our local community, wherever we are, then that should be enough for all of us. I agree with broad, global involvement, but less so with the ideology of saving the world.
