I came to this website after Gooooooogling an idea. I like the idea of using straw bale building materials and rammed earth has some appeal too. So I thought why not use and old (new, or industrial) trash compactor to make building blocks. It sure beats standing in a plywood pit with a jackhammer pounding on dirt. If the compactor or series of compactors were the same width as a bobcat dozer then you could dump a bucket load right in ram it in the compactor pull out your block and build with it. Set it up in the middle of your foundation and you won't have to take the blocks too far to build with them. Has anyone tried this yet, with any success?

http://openfarmtech.org/index.php?title=CEB_Press is the best maintained mechanical CEB research page I know of. Most of the research I did was relating to devices not requiring electricity or Gasoline. My intuition leads me to believe that trash compactors, in their left in the wild state, would likely have too little pressure. That said, I am quite curious if the mechanism could be re-purposed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Eghan , 09:13, 16 December 2009

Eghan Email?

I want to see where this press is now. There's no contact info on his page and I'd really like to get in touch with this guy. I'd like to see if this press is available for making bricks out of other materials. msh37@humboldt.edu —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MeghanHeintz, 06:32, 24 December 2010
