Why?

Why would the topic page for a major category, Agriculture, and portal, Food and agriculture, be turned into a redirect? --RichardF 16:31, 4 August 2012 (PDT)

Good point - KVDP requested the move to Farming, and I couldn't see a strong argument either way (but something of a weak argument for it, since "farming" sounds more like the actual activity).
But given our usage of "agriculture" in other places, let's stick with that unless and until a strong case can be made for moving it all to "farming". I'll move it back, at least for now. --Chriswaterguy 03:16, 5 August 2012 (PDT)
People in the developing world looking for a page on how to improve running their farm aren't going to type in "agriculture", they'll search for "farming" (with the redirect they'll still arrive at agriculture, but they may dismiss it while browsing categories). The term also seems more rural to me. Another arguement is that by using another term, we avoid copying the wikipedia too much (which has just the same article name). Finally, associated terms seem equally weird, ie "agricultural equipment" instead of farming equipment.
