Superior is a high performance computing cluster at Michigan Tech. It is named after the greatest of the great lakes, Lake Superior.

Capabilities[edit | edit source]

It was built with Rocks Cluster Distribution 6.1.1 (with CentOS 6.3),

It has 1 front end, 2 login nodes, one 48 TB RAID6 NAS node (with 33 TB usable space), 72 CPU compute nodes (each with 16 CPU cores & 64 GB RAM) and 5 GPU compute nodes (each with 16 CPU cores, 64 GB RAM & 4 NVIDIA Tesla M2090 GPUs).

8 of the 72 compute nodes make up the short.q (with a maximum allowed wall time of 24 hours) and the remaining make up the long.q (with no ceiling on wall/cpu time). 5 GPU nodes constitute the gpu.q.

MOST projects[edit | edit source]

The MOST group uses the cluster for various simulations primarily with our work in solar photovoltaics.
