The goal of this project is to provide rural communities with solar powered, low cost, high-speed internet access. Many communities do not have direct access to internet through DSL or cable lines. It will be very costly to install cable internet access in these areas. As an alternative, we look to provide wire and cable-free access via satellite or cell phone plans. Solar energy will be used to power these networks, eliminating energy cost and drastically reducing the installation cost. Photovoltaic systems will last around 20 years with minor maintenance, leaving the resident to pay only the internet subscription fee.

Stand-alone solar photovoltaic powered high-speed wireless Internet access

The goal of this project is to provide rural communities with solar powered, low cost, high-speed internet access. Many communities do not have direct access to internet through DSL or cable lines. It will be very costly to install cable in these areas.

Getting Started

Network

  • wireless modem/router
  • internet access: satellite, cell phone

PV system

  • panels: what material? size? location?
  • controller
  • battery (DC)
  • inverter? Is AC necessary?
