Sesame (Sesamum indicum) is a flowering tropical annual plant. It is sometimes also called benne.[1] It is grown in Africa and India and its main use by humans is for its seeds, known as sesame seeds.
Description
The sesame plant grows to about 60 to 80cm (2 to 2 1/2 feet) in height.
Sesame seeds grow in pods or buns.[1] The pods contain many sesame seeds, which range in colour from beige or light brown to red and black.

Uses for sesame
Sesame seeds have many culinary uses. While the flavour of sesame seeds is distinctive, they can be said to have a nutty flavour.
For using, sesame seeds can be eaten raw or they can added to the tops of baked goods, such as bread and buns, before baking. Sesame seeds can be dry or oil roasted until they just change colour, then used as needed.
Sesame has been grown as an oilseed crop for thousands of years.[1] Sesame oil is used in many cuisines, especially for Asian dishes.
Some people have an allergy to sesame seeds.[1]
