Problem being addressed

Many infections result from the improper umbilical cord care and improper treatment of wounds. This is especially relevant in regions like southeast Asia and Africa where home births are common. The SafeSnip device makes umbilical cord disposal safer, easier, and more sanitary.

Detailed description of the solution

The SafeSnip first clamps down on the umbilical cord, then cuts using pressure. The two parts are sterile before they are clamped together. One half of the device stays firmly on the side with the baby to seal the wound and the other half is discarded.
