Things to do to Conserve Energy in the House
- Caulk and weather-strip around all openings and cracks
- Insulate (including floors over unheated spaces
- Insulate hot water pipes; insulate water-heating unit
- Add storm windows and doors (consider using plastic)
- Install insulated shades, panels, or draperies on all windows
- Ventilate attic and crawl space
- Conduct general repairs to reduce air infiltration
- Install clock thermostat on furnace
- Tune-up furnace and water heater annually
- Set water-heater thermostat at 120 F
- Insulate furnace ducts and heat supply lines
- Replace shower heads with water-saving type
- Build a vestibule around exterior doors
