Prefabricated buildings, especially houses, potentially have a big advantage in housing affordability. In recent times, attempts have been made to make high quality, environmentally friendly prefabricated buildings.
Michelle Kaufmann Designs has developed the Glidehouse™ as well as other "green prefab" designs (e.g. the retreat homes described here: Growing Greener Prefab).
