What to bring

Here is an incomplete list of items to pack for the HSU Dominicana Program.

  1. travel umbrella, light
  2. swimsuit
  3. beach towel
  4. Work gloves
  5. Work clothes
  6. lightweight raincoat
  7. Waterproof shoes
  8. antibacterial tissues
  9. sunscreen
  10. cotton socks
  11. comfortable clothes for heat
  12. very comfortable walking shoes
  13. formal summer outfit (for formal occasions)
  14. sunglasses
  15. hat for the sun
  16. backpack
  17. moneybelt (optional - serves to bring some money and save things for personal use)
  18. sandals (optional)
  19. pocket money ($300 USD) [ATM card is safer]
  20. a small gift for your family (e.g. something from Humboldt)
  21. a dictionary (English / Spanish etc.)
  22. pens, pencil, eraser, notebook
  23. a calculator
  24. a shirt that read: "Humboldt State University” (optional)
  25. Memory Stick for use with computer.
  26. Books to donate to the library - These should be on Appropriate Technology, Science, the Environment, Social Justice, etc... and in English or Spanish.
  27. Any small equipment you would like to use/donate (e.g. hammer, multimeter, screwdriver, etc.)

  1. In Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic there are well stocked drug stores, but it is recommended to bring creams, sunscreen, and deodorant of your choice.
