Introduction

Diesel engines can be converted to straight vegetable oil. This may be acceptable for cars which are not used intensively. However, the buildup of carbon (coke) in the engine is a problem, and for this reason it is not advisable for cars which are used intensively, such as commercial vehicles. Biodiesel, which is typically a modified vegetable oil, does not have the same effect and can be used safely.
