Goal[edit | edit source]

The whole reason behind Light Up The World Foundation is to find an effective way to produce affordable lighting for developing countries that do not have it. In many developing countries, once the sun sets, there isn't much in the way of artificial lighting. LUTW's goal is to reach out to those countries and show them how solid state lighting technology cannot only enhance their productivity in the community but how it can benefit projects that will help the environment as well. So far the organization has provided 14,000 homes in 42 different countries with sustainable lighting. They use White Light Emitting Diodes LED that is run off of renewable energy sources. In order to use the LED technology, LUTW will use lamps that are easy to install into homes and will run off of the available energy sources. The idea and brains behind the foundation is a Canadian professor named Professor David Irvine-Halliday
