There have been many green wikis, dating back to Village Earth's Appropriate Technology Project (started in 2004) and Wiki Green (started in 2005?), both of which have since joined forces with Appropedia.
Wikis with a focus on green living, which are currently active (edits of say tens or more per day), include:
- Appropedia - aimed at being a very broad resource on sustainability and international development
- Greenlivingpedia - focused on mainstream Western, urban settings.
- Envirowiki
- Open Source Ecology (focused on the nuts and bolts of sustainability.

In 2008, Wikia Green a commercially operated wiki, was launched.
