Summary

Fixed (not tiltable) windows in houses as well as greenhouses are best not given a same tilt as the optimum tilt (general) you use for PV solar panels, at least if you live in a temperate climate or subtropics (not in other climates). The area we thus discuss is the area between 66°33' latitude and 23°27'The reason is simple; you require more heat/efficiency in winter and less efficiency in summer. In other climates this optimum tilt (taking into account summer/winter) is not used as there it is either too cold in summer as well (not requiring cooling during this period), or too hot during the entire year (requiring cooling all year long, winter and summer, so requiring a tilt that captures far less than the optimal amount of energy/heat, throughout the year).

In general, the closer to the poles, the closer the optimum summer/winter tilt will be to vertical (90°), the more towards the equator, the more it is towards horizontal (0°). The tilt values should thus not be less than 47° (23° 27' latitude + 23° 30' earth tilt) or exceed 90° (66° 33' latitude + 23° 30' earth tilt).[1]

As a final note, winter sun comes in at a much steeper angle than summer sun (for example at 37° latitude winter sun comes in at 30° and summer sun at 77°); however as clear, this is of no importance as you will need to calculate the optimal tilt (for summer/winter) using the formula noted above anyway.[2][3]
