This is an interactive exhibit that demonstrates how the forces of nature contribute to the formation of sand dunes.

Project: Pump Powered Dune Movement Simulator Team Members: Colin Davis, Dalton Hedin, Robert Nordquist, Jimmy Purchio Client: Friends of the Dunes

Abstract

Our project is to create an exhibit for our client, the Friends of the Dunes, that will provide an interactive experience educating visitors about sand dunes and their formation. We will use computer fans powered by a 12 volt battery to blow sand contained within an acrylic tank into sand dune formations.

Background

The Friends of the Dunes is a non-profit organization in Humboldt County, California focused on conservation of sand dunes coastal environments. One of the properties this organization owns is the Stamps House. The Friends of the Dunes has asked our team to design an exhibit for the Stamps House that will demonstrate the formation of sand dunes by the force of wind. This exhibit will be interactive, educational, and scientifically accurate.
