Abstract

The purpose of this page is to show off the Alternative Transportation Wheel that our ERE215 group built for Friends of the Dunes.

Background

The objective of the Carbon Footprint Wheel is to provoke visitors of the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center to consider the environmental impacts of the mode of transportation they used to travel. Six traditional modes of transportation were considered including public transit, bicycles, hybrid cars, typical gasoline cars, diesel pickups, and motorcycles. The relative carbon footprint calculation of average pounds of carbon per mile of travel is displayed to the user by a footprint displayed in scale relative to the other modes of transportation.
