An ecoregion refers to any geographical region that is defined based on the ecosystems it contains and its distinctive flora and fauna. An ecoregion's distinctive biodiversity and ecosystems set it apart from other ecoregions.[1]
It is smaller than a bioregion and ecozone.[1]
