Under Construction

This page will be molested for some time, hopefully only a few weeks. Demotech will try to create a meaningful tree stucture, that is more or less similar to the tree structure in Demotech's website. The man who does it (that's me, Reinder van Tijen, Demotech's initiator) is a newbie to MediaWiki, so learning is slow and painful. There we go!

Demotech, design for self-reliance is a Netherlands based foundation, dedicated to Appropriate technology.

Demotech's contribution consists of technical research into ultra low cost and truly sustainable technical solutions. Next to this Demotech centers on how to get the story about such solutions across to an unwilling world without hope or expectations that such solutions do- respectively can exist.

Apart from sustainable targets, Demotech's design initiatives aim at "More joy per person". Life has more to offer then any consumer walhalla promises. Reduction of technology and in its wake economy, can go together with the raising of its quality. Far more comfort and leisure time can be had if we only re-design technology according to appropriate technical guidelines. Not meaning this is easy. But -yes- meaning it can easily be done in an Open Source collaborative approach. There are many examples that guide the way, but -no- such a collaborative culture joint effort still has to come into being.

In search for an enjoyable sustainable world Demotech wants to draw lessons from people living in poverty. "Learning from Poverty" is the short cut towards a sustainable society. Proper study of the positive aspects of life in poverty that fit into the "Technology within Poverty" proves to be inspiring. To start re-design at the economic level of poverty gives the realistic framework for sustainability. Demotech found numerous options for this approach and has succeeded to get one generally accepted. We listed similar successes elsewhere.

Porting pages

Demotech has kindly offered their pages to be ported to Appropedia. If you are interested check out porting content for more.

Note from Demotech: Keep a clearly marked feedback link to Demotech in anything you port from our pages. Without feedback no de-bugging of our hardware and method is and no further improvement. Also less fun, as feedback is the big attraction coming back from offering content. So clarify state that almost all our pages regard projects in progress. Few of them are clear 'How To' items When porting our pages make clear that the latest info on that particular item can most probably be found at the original Demotech web page.
Last but not least add to your ported page that the Demotech page also is linked to a Wiki-section for precisely this kind of feedback. (Although there is also a forum!)

If Porting, Please Note

The sole condition for use of Demotech designs is to provide a link back to its origin attached to the information from Demotech. And please, let this link not only contain name and (web)-address of Demotech, but also a few lines that the author expects explicit and detailed feedback as a rightful reward for its otherwise freely to be used contribution. Feed back regards all reasons for change, how change worked out, how many people used or made it, yes or no to satisfaction and more ....
This pre-condition looks like the Creative Commons Licenses, specially the license 'Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0' that seemed somehow to answer what we look for. However not with the specific request condition as named. If you do port a page, please include this above request and the following code at the bottom of the page (just above any categories): {{Demotechpage}}

Please see Template:Demotechpage to see the text this code (template) adds to a page. This code also categorizes the page as a Demotech page, so there is no need to add the Template:Tlc code to a Demotech page.
