D-lab is a group of MIT classes run by Amy Smith that focuses on appropriate technologies. The D-Lab family of classes consists of D-Lab: Development; D-Lab: Design; and D-Lab: Dissemination. A D-Lab Health class is planned for spring 2009.

D-Lab: Development, also known as D-Lab I, is offered each fall. Students learn about a variety of approaches to international development, and are placed on country teams that go abroad for the month of January to experience field work and learn about development in a more hands-on way.
