Cloves are a spice derived from the highly aromatic buds of an evergreen tree in the family Myrtaceae, Syzygium aromaticum.[1]

Cloves are grown and harvested in many countries with tropical zones, especially Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Madagascar, Zanzibar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tanzania.[1] Many of these trees grow near seashores.

Uses for cloves

Cloves have many culinary uses as an aromatic flavouring.

Cloves also have medicinal uses, such as for chewing on to alleviate a toothache.

Cloves have long been used in scented items such as pomanders, potpourri and fragrances.
