Butter is produced from cream, and used in moderation:

  • Enhances the flavor of food
  • Makes healthy food, such as vegetables and wholemeal grains, taste better, and make us inclined to eat more of them (as with other fats and oils.)

Butter was once portrayed as very unhealthy, but is now considered to be not so bad as once thought,[verification needed] and probably much better than margarine with its artificial trans fats.

Alternatives

Cold pressed oils are also rich in flavor, and can be spread on bread using a spoon.

Butter can be alternated or combined with olive oil, for variety and to get the health benefits of olive oil.
