==WorldChanging Submission Sequencing Suggestion== WorldChanging wants "always a fresh angle", so I propose that the first submission be broadly about Appropriate Technology, collaboration and wikis, and how these efforts are distinct from Wikipedia. We can mention Appropedia as well as some of the other sites, and the tendency for wiki's to coalesce over time (and give examples, highlighting that Appropedia was the result). Can mention that some sites are sub-efforts of others, while others are independent. Mention the synergy with movements like AfH. In marketing, this is known as establishing the validity of the space or concept, which is best done neutrally. We can come back later with another Appropedia-specific article when we get to 200 article pages or some other event. --CurtB 15:57, 1 November 2006 (PST) :I like the idea of establishing the validity of the space or concept. It's important, I think, that there's a clear main idea in there... I guess that idea is "collaboration on appropriate technology resources." :Do you want to make a first draft? --Singkong2005 (now known as Chriswaterguy) · talk 02:18, 2 November 2006 (PST) ::I'm happy to make the first draft, but that may not be for a few days (We're both off for the weekend). After I posted above, I went and looked again at WorldChanging and found that they had an article on Village Earth's AT wiki back in May. Maybe the spin is "Collaboration In AT 6 months on". The emerging leader is Appropedia... --CurtB 11:34, 2 November 2006 (PST) :::I've had a go, & made some suggestions. (I felt a bit bad about altering too much of Curt's text, so I added two "alternative" paragraphs... which also allows side-by-side comparison. ) Perhaps Curt could have another look, and also it would be great if we could have another set of eyes. --Singkong2005 (now known as Chriswaterguy) · talk 01:52, 11 November 2006 (PST) ::::Chris, you're changes look fine! To be honest, it's hard for me to tell the difference. And don't be bashful about suggesting more radical changes. The best version is the version we think has the most likelihood of getting posted on Worldchanging! I don't think we need to reword the last line about "fussy founders", in part because I don't feel like we've had much of a conversation with the founder, but maybe you have. It's not like it's a negative comment. Also, if the VE founder was that excited about the wiki, he would invest more in it, so I think the sentence is valid. Lastly, my hope is that he sees the sentence and gets a small hint about our intentions. ::::In short, I encourage you to make whatever changes you hestitated to make previously, then BE BOLD, and shoot it off! --CurtB 08:39, 11 November 2006 (PST) :::::Thanks. I've now also added "Wikipedia is for encyclopedic articles, whereas Appropedia accepts a much wider range of material, including original research, case studies, project writeups, how-to's and more." If I've missed something, please add it (e.g how do opinions etc fit in...? and looking up Wikipedia:Wikipedia is an encyclopediaWikipedia:Wikipedia is an encyclopedia might help). :::::I've created Appropedia:Wikipedia to explain the differences, so that it will be easier to find the description in future). :::::I'll have another look at this in the next few days.--Singkong2005 (now known as Chriswaterguy) · talk 17:35, 11 November 2006 (PST) ==Porting== Note - a lot of porting is going on at present (thanks to Curt). Should we mention this in the first submission, or do one later focusing on all the great material we have access to and seeking help in porting? I'm largely posing that to myself... will give it some thought. --Singkong2005 (now known as Chriswaterguy) · talk 07:19, 13 November 2006 (PST)
