Guidelines are not set in stone and should be treated with common sense and the occasional exception. Policies are more official and less likely to have exceptions.
Note: We only have proposed guidelines so far (as of late 2011), and mainly have only proposed policies. Much of the understanding that keeps Appropedia running smoothly hasn't been actually agreed on in an official way. If you have any questions or comments, please leave them at the village pump.
