This is an editing jam with internet chat, where we get in and edit articles, help each other out, ask and answer questions, and talk about Appropedia. As this is new, we may try out different chat tools, so check here for details each month, or join the [https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/appropedia-working-group Appropedia Working Group] to help with planning.

Pick a topic or an article you want to work on (or see A:Wanted pages for ideas). Join the chat and get help with your article - or ask any question about Appropedia.

When: See the time in your time zone. (We've blocked out 90 min, but you can drop in briefly or stay as longer if things are on a roll.) A few examples of local times are given below:
  • North and Central America:
    • Pacific Time (PST) 2pm
    • Central Time (CST) 4pm
    • Eastern Time (EST) 5pm
  • UK, Ireland and Portugal 10pm
  • China, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Central Indonesia 6am Tuesday 13th (early start!)
  • Sydney/Melbourne/Canberra/Hobart, Australia 9am Tuesday 13th AEDT
  • New Zealand 11am Tuesday 13th (NZDT).
Where (virtual meeting place): IRC - see #Joining the channel below. (If you have trouble getting on, send a message to chriswaterguy, and/or call Chris on +61-439-471-632 (Australia). We also have this Etherpad (collaborative notepad) for shared notes - enter a user name and you can start editing.
Theme: Edit jam - think about what page you'd like to start or improve, and any questions you'd like to ask... or just turn up and join in!

Joining the channel

Easiest option for connecting to IRC: enter via the Freenode Web Chat. Enter a username and connect.

If you already have an IRC client (desktop app), connect to #appropedia on Freenode.net. See Appropedia:IRC for advanced options.

See Appropedia:IRC if you need more info or suggestions for clients to use.

Details for future events

Day: Second Sunday of each month. (That's the Monday morning in Asia & Oceania.)
Time: 10pm GMT. We'll give a few local times around the world each time, and you can also look up the time in your own timezone (see the Time Zone Converter to convert from "UTC/GMT").
Virtual meeting place:

Tips: `

  • If you're in a timezone that uses daylight saving, or if you sometimes change timezones, then adding the event as a recurring event can be very difficult in Google Calendar. Instead, subscribe to this calendar: Appropedia online events. (Click the "Add this calendar" button, bottom right. This should add the event to your calendar in your correct local time each month. It may adds a grey GMT timescale to your calendar... but hopefully not!)

These were new events in 2012, and we're expanding them for 2013.

Face-to-face Appropedia Jams

These may be held together with the online jam or at different times. Face-to-face jams are planned for 2013 in:

  • Arcata, California - Appropedians at HSU and from the community
  • Melbourne, Australia - with the Melbourne Appropedia Working Group (new in 2013) and partner organizations.

How about your city? Leave a note on Chriswaterguy's talk page with you questions and ideas.
