HSU / Parras de la Fuente~ verano 2007 / Globalizacion y justicia social

Tesis Goal of assignment: To have you think critically about what “GyJS” means in this “Parras, Coahuila, Mexico context,” by (1) developing your own hypothesis, (2) analyzing your hypothesis based on course materials and exercises/tareas, as well as your experiences in Coahuila, (3) directly applying your theory to your App. Tech. project; and (4) writing this all down in a thesis paper.

You will develop your thesis paper over the course of the 5 weeks. Debería pasar algo así (And it should go something like this…)

1 (primer) Semana Tu tarea: (a) Escriba una definicion de «globalización» y «justicia social.» (Define “globalization” and “social justice.”) (b) Escriba una borrador hipótesis. (Write a draft hypothesis about what globalization is in Parras/Coahuila/Mexico.)

Ejercicio en clase: Trabajan uds. en clase-- en parejas (con un(a) coetáneo(a)), compartir, reflejar tus definiciónes y tu hipótesis, y, si a ti te gusta, revisárlos. (Y’all will work in class -- in pairs (with a peer) share and reflect on your definitions and your hypothesis, and, if you want, revise them.) Entrégalos (necesitan entregárlos). (Turn them in (y’all need to turn them in).)


1, 2a (segunda), y 3a (tercera) Semanas Entrevistas.(Interviews) Necesitas hacer entrevista con tres personas para aprendir como piensan Coahuilenses (o Mexicanos) sobre el mercado global, globalizacion y justicia social, etc. Por lo menos una de las entrevistas tiene que ser con algo no parte de tu familia Parrense. Te alento hacer unas entrevista con alumnos, profesores, y empleados de UTC. (You must interview 3 people to learn what Coahuilans (or Mexicans) think about the global economy, etc. At least one interview must be with someone outside your host family. I encourage you to interview UTC students, professors, and staff.) Tarea para viernes, 6 de julio: Prepare por lo menos 5 preguntas borrados de tu entrevista. (Prepare at least 5 draft questions, en espanol, de tu entrevista.)

Ustedes van a presentar tus resultados de tus entrevistas el lunes de la 3ª semana (16 de julio) (si nada cambia con el horario). Vas a entregar un papel de tus entrevistas, también. (Y’all will present the results of your interviews on Monday of our 3rd week, July 16th.--all other things being equal, as we economists say. (That day our class will meet from 10am to 1pm.))

You will also turn in a write-up of your interviews. 
  • You certainly may enlist any willing teachers, friends, family, etc. to help you with your spanish. You may have some help during your interviews, but please use help as a backup, not a crutch. (It’s for your own good. :o) )

Tarea el 17 de julio. El dìa siguiente las presentaciones, entregarás tu hipótesis final. The day after presentations, you will turn in your final hypothesis for your thesis paper. You may learn something from the interviews that makes you want to change your hypothesis.
