Template:Content used

From Appropedia
Content from this original document is used in {{{1}}}. Also check what links here.

Usage[edit source]

To be placed on original content pages.

List all pages that use content from the page in the argument. Usually this is only one page, e.g.:

{{Content used|[[Graywater]]}}

creates:

Content from this original document is used in Graywater. Also check what links here.

Sometimes, however, there might be a number of pages. E.g.:

{{Content used|[[Rainwater]], [[Water supply]] and [[Desalination]]}}

creates:

Content from this original document is used in Rainwater, Water supply and Desalination. Also check what links here.

Problems[edit source]

As these are on the protected original content pages, ordinary users can't edit them.

A way of solving this (though still not as elegant as being able to edit it directly, and more prone to misunderstandings by editors) is to make the page take its argument from the content of an "argument page", [[{{NAMESPACE}}:{{PAGENAME}}/content used]]. The template then would have an "edit" link to, to edit the (unprotected) argument page. (The other problem with this is that an admin has to put the template on the protected page first - but if there is nothing on the argument page yet, then the template will not display as it should.

Is there a more elegant solution?
