Schematic showing all 3 types of X-ponics systems: hydroponics, aeroponics, aer-dynaponics. Sept/Oct, p72-75 by Chow, K.K. (2004). Made based on direct advice from Mr. Kheong Keat Gregory Chow.

System components:

  • 1= Water inlet (clear water)
  • 2= Nutrient solution tank
  • 3= Plant box drain
  • 4= Engine (with pump attached)
  • 5= Electrical board (switches supply of power on/off to sprinklers at a timed interval; switches valve on/off from nutrient solution tank; this when the sensor in the plant box indicates that the solution level is getting too low)
  • 6= Spraying nozzles
  • 7= Electricity inlet
  • 8= Air compressor
  • 9= Manifold (holds valves of air-dynaponics system which allow to put spraying nozzles on/off at a timed interval)

Note: A chiller has not been placed at the aeroponics system (at drain pipe; before the pump) since this is not a vital component (may be dismissed in some situations; ie in temperate climates or when using alternative cooling systems). In the tropics, without some type of chilling equipment, the roots would however get scorched (root zone temperature gets too high), resulting in browning of roots and rotting.
