We want a mobile skin, mobile site, and/or apps for mobiles.

Easy option?[edit | edit source]

This looks easy...

"There are ways to configure MediaWiki for mobile browsing (i.e. use by handheld devices); see mw:Manual:$wgHandheldStyle."

How do other MediaWiki sites do it?[edit | edit source]

What does Wikipedia do?[edit | edit source]

Wikipedia uses Meta:Mobile - "MediaWiki Mobile is the mobile interface for Wikimedia projects (only Wikipedia at the moment), run by Hampton Catlin and written in Ruby."

Blog posts: GerardM 's posts on Wikipedia Mobile. Note "the product Wikimedia mobile is read only and currently only works for Wikipedia"

wikiHow[edit | edit source]

wikiHow has a mobile site - http://m.wikihow.com/

Advanced options (wish lists)[edit | edit source]

It would be great to have editing options:

  • especially edit section
  • possible add section edit for intro ("&section=0")

Apps?[edit | edit source]

Is it easier to write an app to do this, for a particular OS? (But that serves only a segment, unless we have one for iPhone, one for Android, one for Windows Mobile, one for Symbian, one for BlackBerry, and more...).

See what apps exist, whether they allow editing, and how well they work. Add notes here:

  • Android
  • iPhone
  • Windows Mobile
  • Symbian
  • BlackBerry
