Surya Kiran Chittiboyana, Masters Student in Electrical Engineering in Michigan Technological University

Biography

So

  • I am currently pursuing a Masters degree at Michigan Tech in Electrical Engineering. I have worked in the Software industry for approximately 2 years and also had experience in teaching Aptitude and career enhancement for students who are ready for a professional career.

In the third semester of my masters, I took Solar Photovoltaic Science and Engineering(EE5490). As part of course project, my research topic is Floatovoltaics.

Interests

I'm interested in learning about Solar technology. My name "Surya" means Sun and "kiran" means Rays. It means Sun rays. From my childhood I always wanted to learn about various Solar technologies. I got a wonderful opportunity here in Michigan Tech under guidance of Prof. Pearce to learn about Solar. Under the course, Solar Photovoltaic Science and Engineering. The project that we would like to do is on Floatovoltaics.

Floatovoltaics

It is having Solar power producing plates floating on water. This technology has been theoretically a massive hit in areas where Water evaporation is major concern. There are also many useful advantages in terms of Water treatment using power produced by Solar cells. Some companies in California used this technology commercially for Wine treatment. The project is split down into few subtopics. Performing the simulation using software like Simulink, study about water evaporation, temperature, type of application that we implement, type of floatovoltaic, location and money factor. By the end of Spring semester, we will have meaningful results about floatovoltaics.

Work Experience

  • Implemented Spray and Wait, Spray and Focus routing protocols with modifications to solve delay tolerant Network communications using Java in ONE simulator. Learned to implement same in TinyOS using NesC programming. Experience on working with Telosb.
  • Proposed and implemented text and image cryptography with advanced parallel processor. Compared performance on GPU cores and CPU cores. Gained knowledge on single and multi threading mechanisms.
  • Programmed own SPICE simulator as part of Advanced VLSI CAD course project.
  • Worked as Design Verification Engineer in Wipro Technologies, India for two years. Gained experience in Verilog, System Verilog, Verification methodologies(OVM, UVM), DFT and physical design on ASIC and with basics on FPGA.
  • Worked on Intel SoC targeting IOT(Internet of Things). Our team developed testbench environment from the scratch in Graphics Cluster by integrating IP level environments by using OVM based Intel proprietary verification methodology. Worked on assertions, Xprop tool(used to find real silicon X).
  • Intern at Matrix Cube Technologies as Embedded systems based Android application developer.
  • Trainer for Undergraduate, Graduate and MBA students on career enhancement. Gave lectures on Aptitude and communication skills. Developed course content and manage all activities for 10 courses useful to clear entrance exams.
  • Passionate experience on Robotics including advanced robotic programming as well as basic embedded C implementations.

Hobbies

  • Represented our university dance and variety team. Participated in competitions in various cultural fests.
  • Represented university in Inter University tennis tournament. Won GOLD and SILVER medals for department in University sports meet.
  • Like to play Guitar.
  • Active worker in National Service Scheme(NSS)
