About Me
Name: Deidre Russell
- I was born and raised in Riverside, CA. In 2006 I moved to Humboldt County to pursue a career in Environmental Biology at Humboldt State University. Along the way I found my true interest in combining new technology and the environment so that we may live a more symbiotic lifestyle with the world around us. I am currently a senior at Humboldt State University majoring in Environmental Science Energy and Climate. I wish to continue my knowledge of appropriate technology and new advancements in order to ultimately travel abroad and help provide third world countries with low cost technologies that they can implement with their own resources.
Solar Powered Vertical Vegetable Garden
- My ENGR305 course project was a 'Vertical Hanging Garden' including a solar powered water pump to create a micro-hydro system. My inspiration for this project came from this website: http://www.instructables.com/id/Vertical-hydro-veg-patch/ I hope to build a stronger, more reliable, and more productive garden in order to sustain larger plants such as tomato plants.

Red Earth Action Project / August 2008 / Kenwood, OK
- I spent two weeks on the Squirrel Ridge Ceremonial Grounds in the Cherokee community of Kenwood, Oklahoma. The two weeks included a Natural Building Training with straw bail, and a Solar Energy Training with rainwater catchment and grey water systems, solar energy, and composting toilets.
