All my life I have been fascinated by mathematics. When I was eight years old, my dad told me that people can use calculus and computers to model exactly what number a die will show after being thrown with a known velocity from a known position. At that point I knew that I wanted to learn calculus so that I could come to understand the world around me by using mathematical modeling. As I grew older I saw that this skill could be used to help the environment through computer modeling and environmental engineering. My goal is to someday lead a team using mathematics, computer modeling, and technology to alleviate some of the world’s pressing environmental problems, such as groundwater contamination and air pollution.
