In 1978, a small group of dedicated students saved the dilapidated Buck house on [Humboldt State University] campus from being demolished. With the support of HSU faculty and the community, the students began to remodel the house and use the house to experiment with appropriate technologies. In the summer of ’79 we acquired the house, remodeled and moved in, and in 1980 we became an A.S. program known as the Campus Center for Appropriate Technology (CCAT). Over the years, the center incorporated a photovoltaic system, solar thermal system, greywater marsh, wind turbine, natural buildings, permaculture design, organic gardening, pedal power machines, and much much more.

"The New Mission for 2012"

"We are dedicated to sustainable and strive to show that treading lightly on the earth is both practical and rewarding. We collect and share information on appropriate technology in a residential, while providing hands on learning opportunities(CCAT House)." This quote is the new definition of what message is trying to be sent to those interested in appropriate technology towards the community they reside in.In the past mission as you see below nothing has really changed to what goals are trying to be reached. However, some new goals are being aimed towards to ensure a better hands on learning experience. The CCAT house wants to show how important the earth is. Showing this importance through projects, experimenting, and creatively is rewarding because you take envy is what is being created hands on personally.

What is the meaning behind Appropriate Technology? [[1]] The reason why its proclaimed appropriate is when it stabilizes the environment, socially, and economically meets the needs of the residential community you reside in. Now, what exactly is Appropriate Technology?(AT) describes a ways we can come together and provide sufficient hands on human qualities, and ideas without damaging the Earth's definite natural resources. To determine if a certain technology is good for proper use the CCAT House wants to study causes of perspective problems. Is the technology item built local or by any chance made up of local materials of the community? Is it able to be built from scratch, or at least properly managed, with a limited supply of certain training? Can the technology built be used for the next future generation? Is there harm while producing it or when it comes into use to humans or the environment itself? Any benefits? Good or bad? Affordable? The CCAT House have the answers to all these possible questions, even the hypothesis, maintaining a stable balances the benefits and harms of the hands on built technology is approved as appropriate.

Whats the background of the CCAT House? The Campus Center for Appropriate Technology is a live-in demonstration home and educational center for appropriate technology and resource conservation. CCAT is a registered non-profit organization and home for three students who live in the house and direct the program for one-year periods.
