A thought on trains for the developing world: more robust safety features would be very valuable. The rate of accidents seems to be much higher than in developed countries (one occurred a few hundred km from me in Pemalang, Java, a few nights ago, and over 30 people were killed). I'm guessing this is because of limited resources (from maintenance to new equipment to training) and strained capacity.

Finding or developing affordable safety mechanisms that help in this context could save lives. --Chriswaterguy 13:43, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
