Copying Wikipedia Content[edit source]

Hi Ioakar,

It is great to have you here. We generally try to avoid cutting and pasting a lot of wikipedia content into Appropedia. Appropedia is less for encyclopedic content and more for actual projects, how tos, etc. Including a little background (encyclopedic) information works well, but then we can use Wikipedia to link to more encyclopedic content. I hope that makes sense.

Also, I saw that you are interested in making a Greek version of Appropedia. Is that still the case?

Thank you and welcome! --Lonny 03:26, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Some thoughts on the Greek version of Appropedia:

Firstly, that's wonderful!

Key steps are:

  • We'd love to hear more of your ideas. One way is that you could leave a note at the Village Pump. Or you could write on your userpage: User:Ioakar
  • Note that Appropedia already seems to cope with Greek letters: Appropedia:Sandbox#Greek alphabet?
  • Start the pages you want to. Add a suitable category, e.g. Greek or the Greek language equivalent.
  • When there is a good number of pages, we can look at a separate subdomain. In the meantime, a good Greek landing page on Appropedia will serve as a kind of main page for the Greek Appropedia.

How does that sound? Looking forward to hearing from you again.

Our standard greeting follows, with some links that might be useful. --Chriswaterguy 08:46, 29 May 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Welcome![edit source]

Hi Ioakar,

Welcome to the Appropedia wiki. Please make yourself at home! If you need a general wiki-tutorial, see the main help page (or the more in-depth one on WikiEducator).

Check your preferences and be sure you verify your email address and turn on email notification if you'd like it -- you can find out when your talk page, or any page on your watchlist, is modified. You may want to upload a photo or information about yourself to your userpage (which is at https://www.appropedia.org/User:Ioakar).

If you have a particular interest or project in mind, go ahead and start it! If you have questions or suggestions, the best place to leave them is at our community discussion page, which we call the Village pump - you should get a fast response. Or, feel free to leave me a note on my talk page if you have further questions, need help finding your way around, have a cool idea for a project, or just want to chat.

Glad to have you here!
