[edit] About Me

Name: Ryan Gustafson

I am an Environmental Resources Engineering student at Humboldt State University, California. This simple fact about me would not be a possibility if it were not for a trip I took to Yosemite National Park in the summer of 2008. During that trip, I completed a sixteen mile round-trip, very strenuous hike to the top of the park's most well known landmark: Half Dome. This hike completely changed my life from that day on as it gave me an entirely new outlook on the world and what it has to offer. I became attached to nature from that day on, and it has led me to a major where I can help not only protect the land that I now hold so dearly, but also the people that surround it.

[edit] Interests in Engineering

  • The general ability to solve environmental problems and have a positive impact on the world through knowledge of scientific, mathematical, and engineering expertise. I am a bit unsure right now as of which specialization in environmental engineering that I am most interested in, though I am currently taking an Introduction to Environmental Engineering course which should help with this decision. Ultimately, I am interested in the aspects of environmental engineering that focus on the concepts of chemistry and biology while still utilizing the backbone of physics and mathematics that engineering is known for.

[edit] Experience in Engineering

  • Nothing specific yet. Some previous physics labs might apply, but I am taking my first engineering courses this semester at HSU and am looking forward to getting my hands dirty.
