Welcome and edits[edit | edit source]

Hi Jmonathan,

Welcome to Appropedia. Here is the content that you added to Category:Humboldt AT gallery:

This is a clothesline with clothes air drying on it. Pretty simple. This "technology" (i.e. string, clothespins, and air) is appropriate in its effective simplicity. A modern clothes dryer runs on an average of 5000 watts, an average of 120 kWh per month at an estimated cost of $16.50 each month according to a report from Public Service of New Hampshire (http://www.psnh.com/Residential/ReduceBill/ApplianceUsage.asphttp://www.psnh.com/Residential/ReduceBill/ApplianceUsage.asp). Gas dryers are also an unneccessary use of energy. Why use these modern convenient devices that are costly (the cheapest dryer I found online was $299), require maintenance, and gobble up resources when all you need to dry clothes is string and air. Clotheslines can be errected indoors on a rainy day with only slightly less efficiency. I doubt that our ancestors (most of whom have worn clothes not dried in a special drying machine) would consider a clothesline technology, yet in this age of over-complexificationalities something so simple as a string and some air to dry clothes is very appropriate and easily doable by anyone with air readily available. Some hard core simplicity purists believe the string is too much deviance from the natural order and simple drape their wet clothes over the hood of their car. Thats OK too. The thing that makes clotheslining (and other "appropriate technologies") appropriate in my opinion is that they leave well enough alone and don't over complexificate something simple. Clotheslining can be done almost anywhere, even in Arcata. Join the international intergenerational unofficial cult of clothesliners as soon as possible and save energy.

Please instead add it to Humboldt miscellaneous gallery and follow the following formatting:
